Every child will at one time, or another feel TEST ANXIETY! It is our job as parents to help our kids overcome this.
Here are 3 helpful tips to help relieve TEST ANXIETY!
1. Unload on Paper. When students feel nervous, their capacity to think clearly and solve problems accurately is reduced, having them write down how they feel just before the test helps reduce the anxiety. This is called EXPRESSIVE WRITING. It reduces NEGATIVE thoughts allowing better results.
2. Affirm your Values. Apprehension over tests can be especially common among minority and female students. There is a stereotype that girls don't perform as well as boys in Math. By removing this negative thought, it has shown a 20% rise in test scores for girls for Math.
3. Engage in Relaxation Exercises. Younger kids aren't immune from test anxiety. As early as first and second grade, researchers see evidence of anxiety about testing. Their worries tend to manifest in non-verbal signs that adults may miss. Symptoms can be a stomach ache, difficulty sleeping, and a persistent urge to leave the classroom to go to the bathroom. To relieve this have you child/student lie on the floor focus on their breathing this will help them to relax.
